Mental Health Resources at Black Hawk Grundy

There are many resources for mental health at Black Hawk Grundy. These organizations offer information, referrals, and case management. They also offer peer support. If you or a loved one are suffering from mental illness, you should consider visiting one of their locations. They offer a range of services that are tailored to the needs of their patients.

Psychiatry

The Black Hawk Grundy Mental Health Center Inc. is a private, nonprofit community mental health clinic in Black Hawk, Iowa. They have 19 providers in total and cover seven medical specialties. They are accredited by the State of Iowa Department of Human Services. The Black Hawk Grundy Psychiatry team provides a variety of treatment options, including psychiatry, behavioral health, and social work.

The Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Center has been in operation since 1949, but the stigma associated with mental illness is preventing many from seeking help. Luckily, the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has been at the table for many years, helping to bring mental health services to the Cedar Valley. In 2019, the Community Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Program to increase funding and awareness of the center’s mental health services.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an approach that focuses on coping with intense negative emotions. This helps reduce emotional vulnerability and help people have more positive emotional experiences. Dialectical Behavior Therapy involves four stages of treatment. Stage 1 focuses on overcoming self-destructive behaviors. Stages two and three focus on regaining self-awareness and self-control.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Marsha Linehan in the 1980s as a response to treatment-resistant mental health disorders. Its goal is to teach people to integrate opposites and cultivate acceptance. It has been clinically proven to help people deal with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses.

Medication evaluation and management

Medication evaluation and management is the process of evaluating a patient’s response to a prescribed medication. Mental health professionals use this method to ensure patients receive the best possible outcome from their medication. It is an effective method of treatment for many mental health conditions. Typically, medication is prescribed in conjunction with talk therapy.

The Black Hawk Grundy mental health center offers an array of outpatient treatment options, including medication management. The center specializes in treatment for adults and children with serious mental health problems. It also offers mental health support for the elderly and the sick.

Peer support

Peer support is one of many ways to help someone in need. This type of support is provided by other individuals who have been through similar experiences. In some cases, peer support is a lifeline to people suffering from mental illness. Peer support workers are also known as peer recovery specialists. They are certified by the Iowa Board of Certification and are available to provide support to individuals living with mental illness.

The Cedar Valley Mental Health Planning Coalition is a group of community members working to identify youth with mental health issues and reduce the strain on hospitals. They are expanding mental health services to local schools and are developing a mental health screening process that could be part of a student’s physical exam. Another effort is to integrate mental health screening into other routine testing, such as hearing and vision tests.

THE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAM’S OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE A VARIETY OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO PEOPLE IN BLACK HAWK AND GRUNDY COUNTIES AT NO OR LOW COST BASED UPON A SLIDING FEE. DURING 2019, THE CENTER’S OUTPATIENT SERVICES PROVIDED OVER 20,000 INITIAL EVALUATIONS, INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP THERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO APPROXIMATELY 6,000 INDIVIDUALS.
